Many years ago we went to Hawaii for the first time. We spent time on Oahu visiting Joannie's cousin's family, hiking, snorkeling and kayaking. We then moved on to Kauai and the Big Island. Kauai has always been my favorite.
So for Joannie's birthday we went back to Kauai. Her choice. It's the first time we've been back since that time in the 90's. I have to say, it still has the same flavor albeit there's significantly more people. That could be a function of the season though. Unfortunately due to the big rains of 2018 the road beyond Hanalei was still closed and there was no access to any of the great snorkeling beaches that lay beyond nor the Kalalau trail. (In further reading since we've been home the road is now open but there is a plethora of new requirements for the State Park etc.)
We managed some fine snorkeling at Anini Beach though. Visited Waimea Canyon again. Went tubing down an old irrigation ditch and through tunnels on what was once a sugar cane plantation. Paddle boarded and hiked to, and swam at Secret Falls. The highlight of the trip was our helicopter tour in which we landed at Manawaiopuna Falls, aka Jurrassic Falls! For the night of her birthday we went to Duke's just down the beach from where we were staying at Kauai Marriott. We had a super fun evening with new friends we met while there. It was a great trip!
Here, in criminally random order are some photos of tubing the old sugar cane plantation, our day in Hanalei, Anini Beach, kayaking Wailua river and hiking up to Secret Falls, the hanging gardens and Island Helicopters Jurrasic Falls flight. Aloha!
